Tiles:

- Floor tiles: cement. An important note about cement tile flooring: We’ve used patterned cement tiles in our Powder Room, Master Bathroom, and Laundry Room. These tiles require a lot of care before and after installation to keep them looking good. I’m not a tile expert but I did a ton of research and understood to the best of my ability the level of maintenance they needed from the start, but we also intentionally chose places to use them that did not get direct water and wouldn’t get too dirty. It is incredibly important that this type of tile be properly sealed because once they stain, it’s almost impossible to get it out since the material is porous. I sealed all our tiles individually by hand (with this sealer: Home Depot | Amazon) twice each before they were installed so that as they were handled in installation they wouldn’t stain. Then I re-sealed them again twice after installation. Then, every 6-8 months, I clean them extra well (with clear soap and water) and re-seal them once. It’s possible this is overboard BUT we intend this to be our forever home so any issues these tiles have many years from now will be ours to deal with so I’d rather play it extra safe and keep them protected. We’ve had a great experience with the sealer we use on our tiles, but always be sure to test any sealer you use on a spare tile or somewhere hidden before you apply it everywhere.

Hi There, Do you share your floor plan, not the architect drawing but a high level overview of what the layout is??
admin says
Hi! We designed our house from scratch together so our plan is near and dear to our hearts, and is the result of over a year and a half of work. We have not released, shared, or posted it yet, but may choose to in the future. 😊

May I ask the color of grout you chose on the white subway tile and white hex tiles? We are doing white subway in the shower and a white hex with black dot, on the floors and having the hardest time picking grout:( We have a tiny bathroom..Thank you for your thoughts! Love your home!
admin says
I think it was called silver 🙂
Susan says

It’s a silvery gray – I’d say medium toned.

Wondering how you found someone to custom your door for shower??? Been looking forever and can’t find anyone
admin says
Pretty much just google for them in your area honestly.

Did you have any issues with the vanity? The reviews on HD are mixed. Thanks!
admin says
Nope 🙂 We’ve been happy with it!

Hi, love your home. We are also in the process of building a modern farmhouse. My question is specifc to your powder room. The size of the room looks alot like the size we are working with. Ours will be 8′.2″ long by 6′ in width. Would you be able to tell me what the width of the shower is. According to our measurements, the most we can allow for the shower’s width is 36″. I worry that this will be too small for our guest. Would appreciate your feedback.
admin says
That’s about what our shower width is too. 🙂

Hi! What size drawer pulls did you use for your grey guest vanity from home depot? Btw your house is actual goals xoxo
admin says
The size linked in the post is the size we used.

Hi,
I love the navy panelling in your bathroom, in fact you have similar panelling all over your house in different colours. Please can you advise what this type is? /What to ask a builder for? / Where to source?
Many thanks
admin says
Hi 🙂 It’s referenced under FAQ on the home page and is called shiplap.
Heather says
Where did you get powder room flooring tile from? Is it a stick and peel flooring or real tile?
admin says
The tile material we used is listed in my post above, but our source is not linkable.

Just wanted to get feedback on your shower glass door. Is it sturdy enough? And was installation difficult?
Been getting mixed reviews about these types of shower glass door.
Thank you for your and we love how beautiful your home is.
admin says
Thank you 🙂
It is sturdy enough for what we use this bathroom for – it’s important to note that this this bathroom is primarily a powder bathroom and this shower does not get used regularly (really, only our guests use it). It’s not as sturdy as like a legit wall would be so I definitely wouldn’t put this style of shower glass somewhere that is used by kids or the elderly. It is a solid partition though, it’s naturally just not AS solid as something that was secured fully along the top and bottom. If we’d have wanted to make it more sturdy, we could have run another track along the top that was secured to both walls I suppose but we didn’t feel it was necessary in our situation. We were very intentional about where we used this style of glass in our home so I wouldn’t use it just anywhere but it works perfectly for our purposes. As to whether installation was difficult or not I think that’s a pretty relative term – it really depends on your level of comfort with working with shower glass and construction projects.
